The White House on March 25 said that both Russia and Ukraine have agreed to ensure safe passage for commercial shipping and stop military strikes in the Black Sea.

According to reports by Tass and BBC, Washington released separate statements after American officials met representatives from both countries in Saudi Arabia in recent days. Ukraine has agreed to stop military force in the Black Sea, but added that any movement of Russian naval vessels would be a violation of the agreement, its defence minister said, as per Tass.

Earlier the Kremlin said talks with the US focused on creating safe shipping lanes in the Black Sea, but the details would remain private.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov added that Russia was in favour of resuming the Black Sea grain initiative - a deal allowing Ukraine to safely export grain, Tass reported.

The White House in the statement said that the two countries will remain committed to helping achieve the exchange of prisoners of war, release of civilian detainees and return of forcibly transferred Ukrainian children.

Kyiv and Washington agreed to develop measures for implementing a ban on strikes against energy facilities in Russia and Ukraine, as per the White House statement.

The US and Ukraine will continue working towards a "durable and lasting peace", and welcome third countries to support the implementation of maritime and energy agreements, the statement added and reiterated to both sides in the war that the killing has to stop and it will continue facilitating negotiations.

Ukraine and Russia agreed in principle Wednesday to a limited ceasefire after US President Donald Trump spoke with the countries' leaders, but the parties have offered different views of what targets would be off-limits to attack.

While the White House said “energy and infrastructure” would be covered, the Kremlin declared that the agreement referred more narrowly to “energy infrastructure”.
