Shaina Chudasama, fashion designer:

The British may be a very conservative lot but I think the Princess of Wales did the right thing by expressing her feeling and setting the whole controversy at rest. People were, in any case, dying to know what was happening and were making their own judgements based on tabloids. It was time for the truth to come straight from the horse's mouth. Maybe the press did go overboard with their reporting, but it will help in reinforcing her position as Queen of Hearts.

Suneet Rao, singer:

Too much is being made of one lady and one family. She must have felt the need to come out in the open but I was shocked to hear the things she said. One should not dissect one's personal life in public. I wonder if this entire episode has any significance at all – more so in view of the fact that although the monarchy is an important part of British life, it is not as if they rule the country. Whatever it is, all that heartfelt crying out has won Lady Diana a lot of sympathy.

Devika Bhojwani, socialite and businesswoman:

As the wife of the heir to the throne of England and the world's most popular celebrity, whatever the Princess of Wales does becomes significant. Maybe she needed to talk about her life but some things shouldn't have been said. She had no right to undermine her husband, especially about his not having the qualities to make a good king. I guess, this makes news anyway because a lot of people are interested in the royal lives.

Priya Tendulkar, talk show hostess and actress:

Why should someone's personal life be discussed in the first place? I think too much of hoo-haa is being made out of this, just because it involves a prince and a princess. Adultery is normal in today's world, so also a woman being scorned for another. It is happening everywhere. The press too needs something to chew on and the princess has given them something to chew on for a while.

Ritu Beri, fashion designer:

Obsession is not limited to royalty, people are curious about the lives of any famous personality. As far as Lady Diana is concerned, the interview does not become her. She had no business to go public with her private life. You cannot and should not let other people pass judgement on your personal life.

Shahnaz Hussain, beauty specialist:

Diana came across as very powerful, and set an example to all women and men that her personal happiness comes first. She relinquished her calm to the throne because she put her personal happiness first. A wonderful example of woman power. More power to her.

Sadia Dehlvi, journalist and socialite:

The worldwide obsession with Diana indicates she has transcended royalty. I love women who break rules and get away with it. She has made the transition from a shy mannequin to a woman of courage fighting for her survival. The interview was the right thing to do, a very good move on her part. Besides, Charles went public first, so why shouldn't she? It shows that it pays to be honest.
