Amritsar Temple Grenade Attack: One Accused Killed In Encounter With Punjab Police

During the early hours of March 15, an explosion was reported outside the Thakurdwara temple. While no casualties were reported, the attack was captured on CCTV.

Punjab Police conducted an encounter on Monday to nab the two accused involved in the Amritsar grenade attack. As per reports, one of the accused succumbed to his injuries during the encounter, and the other one managed to flee the scene.

As reported by ANI, the accused Gursidak and Vishal, were found in the Rajasansi area. According to police officials, when SHO Chheharta tried to stop the motorcycle on which the accused were riding, they left their motorcycle and fired at the officials.

"One bullet hit the head of Constable Gurpreet Singh on his left arm, one bullet hit the turban of Insp Amolak Singh and one bullet hit the police vehicle. Insp Vinod Kumar fired in self defence from his pistol which injured the accused Gursidak. Other accused managed to flee from the spot. HC Gurpreet Singh and Gursidak were taken to Civil Hospital for treatment, where Gursidak succumbed to his injuries. FIR on the incident is being registered at PS Airport," say Police.

What Was The Amritsar Grenade Attack?

Based on the footage, the two men were seen carrying a flag as they briefly stopped outside the temple before hurling an object towards the premises.

Shortly after this, an explosion caused panic in the area at 12:35 AM, as the two accused fled the scene.

As per Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Bhullar suggested that preliminary investigations revealed a link to Pakistan.

"Pakistan engages in such mischievous acts from time to time. We are actively investigating and making efforts to arrest the accused. The nature of the explosive is yet to be verified, but we are treating the matter with utmost seriousness," the police official was quoted as saying by India Today.

In another similar incident, a Pakistani gangster claimed responsibility for a grenade like object hurled towards a residence of Jalandhar-based YouTuber Rozer Sandhu on Sunday.
