As the border tension continues to evolve between India and Pakistan External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Friday spoke about the Indo-Pak escalation and said India is "confronting" the challenge of terrorism, which is a "shared threat" to the international community.

While delivering a speech at an event hosted at the Russian Embassy in New Delhi, the minister thanked those who have expressed solidarity with the country and understand the "resolute response that is underway".

"It is a great pleasure to join you all on this occasion to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the war over fascism in 1945," Jaishankar said.

"We also meet at a time when India is confronting the challenge of terrorism, one that is a shared threat to the international community. I thank those who have expressed solidarity with us and understand the resolute response that is underway," he added.

Jaishankar in his address at the embassy also said, "Today is an occasion for hope and optimism, as also for remembrance, underpinned by the conviction, that international cooperation is even more important than even before." "It is an endorsement of our diplomatic endeavours be that bilateral, regional or multilateral," he added.

Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar on Friday said that, "We are gathered today at a time when India is firmly confronting the challenge of terrorism. We believe this is a shared threat for which there must be zero tolerance. I thank all those who have expressed solidarity with us and recognise the need for a resolute response..."

The Indian armed forces early Wednesday carried out precise missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan under Operation Sindoor.

India on Thursday thwarted Pakistan's attempts to strike military sites with drones and missiles at 15 places in northern and western regions of the country and targeted Pakistani air defence systems with one in Lahore being "neutralised".

In less than 24 hours after Pakistan launched a coordinated missile and drone attack targeting Jammu, sounds of blasts have been heard in the same region on Friday evening. Complete blackout in Jammu has been imposed while sirens blared as well.

A day before, Pakistan once again targeted India and launched a missile attack on Jammu on Thursday evening. Defence sources told PTI that eight missiles from Pakistan directed at Satwari (Jammu Airport), Samba, RS Pura and Arnia have been intercepted successfully.

Several high end Surface-to-Air-Missile (SAM) units were engaged as well near multiple locations including Jammu airport, Pathankot, Akhnoor and Samba. Officials told PTI that Pakistani troops resorted to shelling along LoC in Kupwara, Baramulla districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
