“We could hear the sound of firing for a long time. We never looked back.” A couple from Nagpur, who had narrowly escaped the attack, spoke to ANI of the panic that gripped the valley. “Everyone was trying to escape from the place,” they said. “There were many children, tourists—400 to 500 of them. No one helped us.”
“My son was hungry, so my husband went to get snacks. Then the shots rang out.”Pallavi Rao, who had travelled from Karnataka with her husband and son, recalled the ordinary moment that turned into tragedy. Her husband, Manjunath Rao, was among those gunned down.
“They asked for names and then fired.” Multiple survivors reported that the attackers were not random in their brutality. Dinesh Miraniya, who had taken his family to Pahalgam to celebrate their wedding anniversary, was reportedly shot after being asked his name. His wife and children witnessed it. “Armed men suddenly emerged from the valley, began asking names, and then fired.” Said his relative, Manish Singhania.
“Terrorism is the biggest threat to humanity.” In a statement following the attack, Sai, another witness, voiced what many survivors now echo: a call for accountability and action. “It cannot be accepted in any form,” he said.
