Panic spread across various cities in India and Pakistan as misinformation of fresh strikes on both sides on the intervening night of May 7 and 8 flooded the internet.
Unverified videos of India launching fresh attacks on Pakistan라이브 바카라 Sialkot crowded social media around midnight, aided with false visuals that were either generated through Artificial Intelligence or were pre-existing videos of other wars.
Mohammed Zubair - an independent fact-checker and co-founderof AltNews - debunked visuals claiming New Delhi attacked Sialkot for the second day in a row. He replied to threads on X - updating with original videos from Texas and Israel.
Similarly, unverified videos and texts of strikes in India라이브 바카라 Amritsar - which is home to the holy Golden Temple and is roughly 30 kms away from the Wagah border - caused alarm in the city.
WhatsApp messages of Amritsar residents claiming to hear loud noises in short intervals circulated widely on the internet. There were also reports of the appearance of projectile launches witnessed in the city. Certain internet users further alleged sonic boom-like blasts echoing across the area.
There was a blackout in Amritsar city yesterday evening as part of the civil defence mock drill ordered by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
“Taking utmost caution, Amritsar district administration has again started the blackout process. Please stay at home, do not panic and do not gather outside your houses; keep the outside lights switched off: Amritsar DPRO,” ANI posted at 2:02AM.
What is Operation Sindoor?
The misinformation and fake news comes in the wake of nine precision strikes that India launched on Pakistan early on Wednesday morning as part of ‘Operation Sindoor’ - a retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
The key targets included headquarters of banned Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen. Operation Sindoor and the mission comes after India has taken several diplomatic steps to address the issue of cross-border terrorism, India라이브 바카라 Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, adding that the strikes were "non-escalatory and measured."
India targeted terror infrastructure from where attacks against India have been planned, the Indian Army said.
At least 12 people were killed and 57 others injured after the Pakistan army resorted to heavy artillery and mortar shelling which targeted villages close to the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday.
During the night of May 7-8, Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked fire using small arms and artillery guns across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri and Akhnoor areas in Jammu and Kashmir, ANI reported. The Indian Army responded proportionately.
Furthermore, Jodhpur administration has announced a holiday in all private and government schools and Anganwadis from today till further notice, according to ANI.
