The US Department of Education announced Monday that Harvard University will be barred from receiving new federal grants until it meets the Trump administration's demands.
Harvard President Alan Garber received a letter from Education Secretary Linda McMahon, the Associated Press reports.
What did the letter say?
In the letter, McMahon wrote, "This letter is to inform you that Harvard should no longer seek grants from the federal government, since none will be provided."
Earlier, the US government had frozen $2.2 billion in federal funding to Harvard, and Trump is also seeking to revoke the university's tax-exempt status.
The US Education Department has warned Harvard University that it won't receive new federal grants unless it addresses concerns over antisemitism and meets federal requirements. Specifically, Harvard must "demonstrate responsible management" of the university.
This applies specifically to federal research grants, not to federal financial aid that students receive for tuition and fees.
The official reviewed the decision in a conversation with journalists; news agency Associated Press reported on condition of anonymity.
The official accused Harvard of "serious failures", saying the university had "allowed anti-Semitism and racial discrimination to persist", abandoned "rigorous academic standards", and failed to allow "diversity of views" on its campus.
Would Harvard get new grants?
For new grants, Harvard would need to enter negotiations with the federal government and prove it has satisfied the administration라이브 바카라 requirements.
The Trump administration has called on Harvard to make sweeping changes to its government and leadership, revise its admissions policy and audit its faculty and student body to ensure that diverse viewpoints are welcome on campus.
The White House says it's targeting campus antisemitism after pro-Palestinian protests swept U.S. college campuses last year.
It's also focused on the participation of transgender athletes in women라이브 바카라 sports.
And the attacks on Harvard increasingly have called out the university's diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, along with questions about freedom of speech and thought by conservatives on campus.
In a letter to Harvard's president on Monday, Education Secretary Linda McMahon accused the university of enrolling foreign students who demonstrate contempt for America.
“Harvard University has made a mockery of this country라이브 바카라 higher education system,” McMahon wrote.
Previously, Harvard라이브 바카라 president has said that he will not yield to the government라이브 바카라 demands.
The university filed a lawsuit to challenge the government라이브 바카라 freeze on funding last month.
