An FIR has been registered against Bhojpuri singer Neha Singh Rathore by Lucknow Police after the singer allegedly criticised the Modi government. In a viral video, the singer was heard stating that the Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives, was a major intelligence and security failure on part of the ruling government.
As per a PTI report, the singer has been accused of sedition, disturbing public tranquillity, and promote sectarian animosity.
"In this situation, singer and poetess Neha Singh Rathore, using her Twitter (now X) handle @nehafolksinger made some objectionable posts that can adversely affect the national integrity and made repeated efforts to incite one community against another based on religion," read a tweet issued by the complainant, Abhay Pratap Singh.
The case against Neha was registered after her video was circulated by Pakistani accounts. A case has been registered under sections 196(1)(a), 196(1)(b), 197(1)(a), 197(1)(b), 197(1)(c), 197(1)(d), 353(1)(c), 353(2), 302, 152 of the Indian Penal Code and IT Act 69A.
What Did The Singer Say?
In the video, she claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be using the Pahalgam attack to claim votes for the Bihar assembly elections.
She added that Modi will continue to count on votes due to the terror attack, just like he did in 2019 after the Pulwama attack, in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.
In her video, Rathore also stated that anyone asking questions about the attack and the security lapse will be silenced.
