Another case of an Indian losing his life in a foreign land while looking for work surfaces, this time in Jordan.

According to reports, two men hailing from Kerala were shot at by the Jordanian army as they attempted to cross the border from Jordan into Israel with the help of an agent.

While one Ani Thomas Gabriel succumbed to his injuries, his brother-in-law, Edison survived and came back to home after spending 17 days in custody.

Gabriel's wife told ANI that she spoke to him for the last time on a call where, “he only spoke to me for two minutes. He just asked me to pray for him…”

Gabriel라이브 바카라 family told the media that they received an email from the Indian Embassy on March 1 confirming his death.

The Indian embassy in Jordan in a post on X wrote, “The Embassy has learnt of the sad demise of an Indian national in unfortunate circumstances. The Embassy is in touch with the family of the deceased and is working closely with Jordanian authorities for transportation of mortal remains of the deceased."

Edison Says They Left Home For Jobs

Edison was quoted by Indian Express where he narrated their story of India to Jordan and back.

Hailing from Thumba near Thiruvananthapuram of Kerala, Gabriel and Edison were part of a group of four people with other two being Biju Baby and Joshi who were also from their native place.

Joshi reportedly left Jordan before this incident took place and Biju is currently in Jordan itself.

Edison reportedly said, "On reaching Jordan, we stayed at a hotel in Amman. Joshi told us that he would go back to Kerala and bring more people to Jordan for an Egypt-Israel tour package. After Joshi returned to Kerala, Biju, who works in Jordan, told the two of us (Edison and Thomas) that a guide would take us to Israel."

Biju promised the two of jobs in Jordan that would pay a monthly salary of Rs 3.5 lakh, Edison added, “I paid him Rs 2.10 lakh. Apart from that, he wanted us to give him Rs 50,000 every month once we joined the work. We know driving, plumbing, painting and other sundry jobs…"

On the day the incident took place, Edison and Gabriel were crossing the border, he said, "It was a one-and-a-half hour journey and we changed cars in between at the behest of the guide. A person from Israel was in touch with the guide through WhatsApp and we kept sharing our location. We were given a new SIM card and the person from Israel was controlling our movement. At night, we were dropped by the seashore."

He added that while walking on that seashore, they were shot at, "I was the first to get hit. Days later, when I regained consciousness, I was under treatment at a camp. I was then produced before a court, which sent me to jail. Then only did I realise that Thomas was missing."

Further Edison added that he managed to contact home and , "told the family to send a return ticket to facilitate my release from jail. After the return ticket reached me, I was released on February 27."

"From jail, I had called Thomas라이브 바카라 family and informed them that he was missing. Then, they asked for the embassy라이브 바카라 help, which in turn informed them about his death," said Edison

What Did The Family Know?

Gabriel had left home with Edison on February 5, saying he was going to Velankanni, a Christian pilgrimage centre in Tamil Nadu, a relative told a TV channel.

They got to know that Gabriel was reportedly shot in the head, while Edison sustained a leg injury and was taken to a Jordanian army hospital.

After receiving treatment, he was repatriated to India.

It was only after his return that Gabriel라이브 바카라 family learned he had travelled to Jordan. Upon further inquiry through the Embassy, they were officially informed of his death, relatives said.

Gabriel's sister speaking to ANI said, "My relative's son is in London and he is the one who called and informed me about this incident. We don't know what happened exactly. He left from here on 5th (February). On 9th (February), my sister received a call, it was just for 2 minutes. He just asked to pray for him and cut the call."

"He once worked in Kuwait for 5 years...he didn't say anything to his wife and anyone, he left silently. He called once he reached there and then only he told where he went to,” she added.

This is not the first time Indians got killed in foreign land while looking for odd jobs there. Last year the External Affairs Ministry disclosed that at least 12 Indian nationals have died while fighting for Russia in its war against Ukraine and 16 more are missing. A total of 126 Indians have been involved, with 96 already repatriated.
