Maharashtra police detains AIMIM National Spokesperson Waris Pathan and other party leaders and workers who were protesting against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, ANI confirmed.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, passed by the Lok Sabha on April 3, 2025, and by the Rajya Sabha on April 4, 2025, became law as the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, and came into force on April 8, 2025.
During the protest, Waris Pathan alleged the central government and, "Byculla Masjid trustees called us for a protest against the black Waqf law brought by the Modi government," as quoted by ANI.
"Our peaceful protests will continue across the country since the matter is with the Supreme Court and the hearing will be held on 16 April... We want this law to be taken back just like the farm laws were repealed...," he added.
