As the gold smuggling case against Kannada actor Ranya Rao continues, Karnataka BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal has called for strict action against the actor. However, his call for strict action followed after the Bijapur City MLA made crude and vulgar remarks against Rao.
Speaking to reporters, the BJP MLA was quoted as saying that the actor smuggled in gold to India "wherever she had holes."
"She had gold all over her body, hiding it wherever she had holes, and smuggled it in," the MLA stated while calling for strict action.
As we wait for an official reaction to his comments from the BJP, the Karnataka MLA further vowed to "name all ministers involved in this case during the Assembly session."
"I have gathered complete information about her relationships, who helped her obtain security, and how the gold was brought in. I will expose everything in the session, including where she hid the gold and how she smuggled it in," the MLA was quoted as saying by India Today.
What Is The Case About?
Kannada actor Ranya Rao was arrested at Bengaluru Airport on March 3 for allegedly smuggling gold from Dubai. As per reports, the actor was found with 14.2 kg of gold worth Rs 12.56 crore while returning from Dubai.
After her arrest, a raid at her residence led to the recovery of gold jewellery worth Rs 2.06 crore and Rs 2.67 crore in cash.
The actor was arrested and remanded to custody after her bail plea was rejected.
Karnataka DGP Ramchandra Rao, who is the stepfather of the actor, is also being investigated for his alleged involvement in the smuggling. The top IPS official has been out on leave until further notice.
Rao has alleged that she has been falsely accused of smuggling over 14 kgs of gold from Dubai. As the investigation continues, the regional actor has further stated that she is being tortured while in custody and was forced to sign blank and pre-typed documents.
