As the rescue operation for the Telangana tunnel collapse continues, Kerala police have dispatched two cadaver dogs and their handlers to help in the search effort. The cadaver dogs were sent after the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) requested their assistance to the Kerala SDMA.
As per PTI, a statement from the Kerala government in Thiruvananthapuram stated that the cadaver dogs of the state police will be joining the rescue operations in Telangana's Nagarkurnool.
"Cadaver dogs are specially trained to locate missing humans and human bodies. The canines and the officers handling them left for Hyderabad on Thursday morning," it said.
With the rescue operation on its 13th day, authorities are also exploring the use of robotics and seismic studies to try and rescue the eight trapped workers.
The use of robotic technology was also suggested by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to prevent risks to rescue personnel.
The workers have been trapped in the SLBC tunnel since February 22 after the under-construction roof collapsed. A total of 51 workers were carrying out excavation work when the tunnel's roof caved in.
Majority of the workers amanged to escape, but eight workers, including two site engineers and four labourers from Jharkhand remained trapped.
Sniffer digs had been deployed to find the location of the workers, Last week, they were able to detect the location of four workers. Despite a slim chance of survival for the workers, the rescue effort continues.
