Uttarakhand Avalanche LIVE Updates: 32 Workers Rescued Out Of 57; Rescue Ops Halted Due To Bad Weather

• Thirty-two of the 57 BRO workers trapped under an avalanche in the high-altitude village of Mana in Uttarakhand라이브 바카라 Chamoli district have been rescued.

An avalanche struck Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, reportedly trapping 57 workers in Mana village. Ten workers were rescued safely, rescue operation is currently underway.

Police Headquarters spokesperson IG Nilesh Anand Bharne told ANI, "A massive avalanche has occurred near the Border Roads Organisation camp in the border area of ​​Mana in which 57 workers engaged in road construction have been trapped. Out of these workers, 10 workers have been rescued and sent to the army camp near Mana in critical condition."

Responding to the current situation, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami told reporters, "57 of the BRO workers were trapped in the avalanche, out of which 16 workers have been rescued. All preparations have been made. We are taking help from the ITBP. The district administration and all others are in touch, and we are trying to rescue all as soon as possible."

State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), district administration, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Border Roads Organisation (BRO) teams are on the spot.

The avalanche buried a camp of the Border Roads Organisation between Mana and Badrinath, Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari said as quoted by Press Trust of India.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several hilly regions, including Uttarakhand, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall of up to 20 cm until late Friday night.

Speaking to the reporters, Chamoli DM Sandeep Tiwari said, "Information about an avalanche has been received. Around 57 labourers of BRO (Border Roads Organisation), who undertake snow-clearing operations, had camped there. Our teams have been mobilised - ITBP, SDRF and Administration."

"There is active rainfall and snowfall activities there. So, we are unable to deploy heli-services. Movement is difficult. Since satellite phones and other such equipment are not available there, we have not been able to have a clear communication with them", Tiwari said

"We have no official information about any casualties yet. NDRF and IAF teams are also being made available to us. Heli-services cannot be used due to active snowfall in the area of the incident", he further added.

Heavy snowfall continues near Mana Village in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district.

57 labourers engaged in snow clearance near Mana were trapped after an avalanche hit the area.

As per PTI, 16 labourers have been rescued so far while the search and rescue operation for the remaining persons is underway.

The Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment (DGRE) in Chandigarh issued an avalanche warning for a period of 24 hours at 5 pm on Thursday for places located above 2,400 metres in Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts.

The MeT office in Dehradun also predicted isolated heavy rain and snowfall in locations situated at 3,500 metres and above in these districts on Friday morning. Following this, the State Emergency Operations Centre here alerted concerned district magistrates.

Expressing concern over the avalanche in Uttarakhand, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh posted on X, "An unfortunate avalanche has occurred in the Mana area of Joshimath (Uttarakhand) today impacting the GREF camp of BRO. Spoke to CM Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami regarding the situation. The administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected. Rescue efforts by local Army units are also underway. All efforts to rescue the trapped personnel are being undertaken by utilising all available resources."

CM Dhami reviewed efforts to save the trapped workers. So far 16 people amongst the 57 workers engaged in snow clearance near Mana village have been rescued.

Indian Army carries out rescue operations in the avalanche-hit area of Chamoli district.

Rescue operations are underway by teams of the Indian Army, NDRF AND SDRF where 57 Border Roads Organisation (BRO) labourers were trapped under an avalanche. So far, 16 have been rescued, and the operation is ongoing.

On Chamoli avalanche, Uttarakhand Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Suman says, "The situation there is difficult as there is continuous snowfall in the area. A team of 65 people is engaged in the rescue mission. So far, 10 people have been rescued, operation is underway to rescue those trapped. We have made a demand for Army helicopter. Rescued persons have been admitted to ITBP hospital in Mana."

Commenting on the Chamoli Avalanche, Union Home Minister Amit Shah posted on X, "Spoke to Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami ji, DG ITBP and DG NDRF regarding the glacier burst in Chamoli, Uttarakhand. Our priority is to safely evacuate the people trapped in the accident. The local administration is engaged in rescue operations with full readiness. Two teams of NDRF are also reaching the spot soon."

On Chamoli avalanche rescue mission, NDRF DG Piyush Anand said, "16 people have been evacuated. Four teams of NDRF have been mobilised. The Union Home Minister is monitoring this operation closely. He has spoken to both me and DG ITBP. Our focus is on rescuing a maximum number of people. The Home Minister has given clear directions to save every life."

Google Earth visuals show the remote spot in Chamoli amid the lofty Himalayan mountains where 41 BRO labourers are still trapped after an avalanche hit their camp.

The incident site is close to Mana, three kilometres from Badrinath and the last village on the India-Tibet border at a height of 3,200 metres.

Speaking to 바카라 reporter Ashwani Sharma, local sources revealed that 32 out of the 57 trapped workers have been rescued so far by the teams comprising Indian Army, NDRF and SDRF teams.

Sources told PTI that the rescue operations have been halted due to bad weather and the impending danger of more avalanches. It will restart when the weather improves, they said.

Two mild avalanches followed the one which hit the BRO camp and the rescue operation has been halted, the sources said, adding the site is vulnerable to avalanches during winter.
