Currently 58th in the ICC T20I rankings, the Bahamas are the weakest team on paper competing in the five-team tournament, but are high on confidence after a relatively strong showing in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Americas Qualifier 2024-25.
With six wins in eight matches, the Marc Taylor-led side finished third and qualified for the June regional final. The inaugural edition of the North American Cup, also featuring Bermuda and the Cayman Islands -- who took the first two places in the sub-regional event -- is being organised to help teams play more competitive matches ahead of the said regional final.
For the USA, the North American Cup offers an opportunity to test their bench strength in the run-up to the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Ranked 17th in the format, the USA registered a comprehensive 79-run win against the Cayman Islands in the tournament opener. Skipper Monank Patel scored 76 runs off 45 balls while Yasir Mohammad claimed four wickets for 20.
This will be the second meeting between the Bahamas and the USA. In their first meeting, in an ICC Men's T20 World Cup Americas Region Qualifier match in November 2021, the USA cantered to a 10-wicket win with 47 balls to spare after restricting the Bahamas to 90/7.
