In the tournament opener, hosts Cayman Islands suffered a 79-run defeat against regional heavyweights the United States of America.
Chasing a target of 187 runs, the Cayman Islands got off to a promising start with openers Jermaine Baker (30 off 20) and Sacha De Alwis (13 off 14) stitching a 33-run stand for the first wicket.
But the 39th-ranked side failed to capitalise on the good start, and eventually managed only 107/7 in their stipulated 20 overs.
Bermuda, 28th in the ICC T20I rankings, also lost their opener against Canada, by five wickets. Skipper Terryn Fray bravely opted to set a target, but a total of 105/8 proved too little against a strong Canadian outfit. Fray (52 off 54) and Delray Rawlins (34 off 37) are the only batters to register double-digit scores.
Both teams will feature in the upcoming four-team ICC T20 World Cup Americas Regional Final. The Bahamas are the fourth team. Scheduled to be held in Canada in June 2025, the tournament winners will qualify for the World Cup 2026.
