The first T20I match between India and England is being played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and the live-action will start at 07:00 pm IST. The players have come to the stadium and are involved in the practice drills.

This is the first white-ball tour of England's head coach Brandon McCullum in India. He announced the playing XI for the first T20I on the eve of the match with captain Jos Buttler.

The square boundaries are 59m and 66m respectively with the straight boundary at 75 metres. The strip looks solid and there is bit of greenery on the top. Batting on this pitch will be easy and the seamers may get some assistance with the air at the start. A high-scoring game is on the cards. Batting second will be easy because of the dew.

After national anthems, Jhulan Goswami rang the customary bell to start the match. Arshdeep Singh opened the Indian attack with the first over and Ben Duckett along with Phil Salt came to open the batting for the tourists. Salt faced Singh. The first two deliveries did nothing but he got rid of him with the third delivery.

Arshdeep Singh got his second wicket in the game when he got Ben Duckett caught by Rinku Singh in his second over. With this wicket, he overcame Yuzvender Chahal to become the leading wicket-taker in T20Is.

Hardik Pandya continued his attack from the other end and Jos Buttler hit him four boundaries to collect 18 runs from his second over. Buttler is making the most of his IPL experience on these pitches.

Axar Patel was introduced into the attack just after the powerplay and Harry Brook welcomed him with a classical six. Jos Buttler, who has set his eyes finished the over with another six. He conceded 15 runs from the over.

Varun Chakaravarthy was called back into the attack to bowl his second over after Patel conceded 15 runs. Harry Brook was looking good and he bowled him on the third delivery. Liam Livingstone replaced him at the crease and Varun bowled him as well to take his second wicket in the match.

Jos Buttler completed his fifty in 34 balls in the 12th over. Before that, Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi bowled two cheap overs which created pressure on the English batters. Jacob Bethell lost his wicket in the over after making seven off 14 balls.

Axar Patel was called back into the attack after leaking 15 runs in his first over. He conceded just three runs and got rid of Jamie Overton. Gus Atkinson is the newest batter to walk in the ground.

Axar Patel got rid of Gus Atkinson to give India another breakthrough. He bowled four straight dot balls then the next delivery missed the wicket and wicket-keeper as well and went to the boundary. Atkinson tried to go big on the next delivery and was stumped out.

Varun Chakaravarthy came to bowl his last over of the spell and Jos Buttler welcomed him with a big six. He tried to do the same on the next delivery but Nitish Kumar Reddy took a brilliant catch at the fine leg to dismiss him.

The ninth-wicket partnership between Adil Rashid and Jofra Archer added 21 runs for England. Hardik Pandya dismissed Archer in the last over and Mark Wood lost his wicket while stealing a single on the last delivery. India have managed to bowl out the visitors to 132 runs. Now, India need 133 runs to win this match.

Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma opened the batting for India with Jofra Archer charging in for England. Samson faced the first delivery comfortably. Captain Jos Buttler set a 'Test Match' like fielding with a short-leg and a slip in place. Just one run from the first over.

Gus Atkinson came to bowl the second over for England and Sanju Samson welcomed him with back-to-back four. He missed the third delivery but smashed a six on the fourth delivery. Then he finished the over with back-to-back fours.

Mark Wood was introduced into the attack in the fourth over and he bowled four back-to-back dot deliveries. The fifth delivery was bowled at 153.6 kph and it missed the batter, wickets and even the keeper and went for the boundary. Just six runs came from the over.

Jofra Archer continued his attack from one end and dismissed the set batter Sanju Samson on the second delivery of the over. He went on to dismiss captain Suryakumar Yadav with a slower ball. Tilak Varma came and started his inning with a boundary.

Facing the first delivery from Mark Wood, Abhishek Sharma played a leg glance which went for a maximum. He sliced the next ball to get another six over the covers. He then played a straight down the ground shot which went for a four. He collected 18 runs from the over. He smashed three back-to-back boundaries to Adil Rashid to collect 16 runs from his over as well.

Abhishek Sharma completed his half-century in just 20 balls. This was the second-fastest fifty by an Indian batter against England after Yuvraj Singh's 12-ball fifty. He is changing his gears and trying to smash every delivery.

India won the first T20I match by seven wickets after Abhishek Sharma's 79 off just 34 balls. He lost his wicket at the end but his brilliant knock helped India win the match in just the 13th over. He batted with a strike rate of 232 and hit eight sixes in his inning. Tilak Varma played the winning shot off Mark Wood.

I just wanted to express myself. A special mention to the captain and coach. They have given us a lot of freedom. The way they talk to youngsters, it's tremendous. It was a double-paced wicket. Our bowlers bowled well, they were really good. I thought we would chase something around 160-170, but the bowlers bowled really well. We (other batters) were always talking to each other. I enjoy from the other end when Sanju is batting. It's about expressing myself. The plan was simple. IPL has helped me a lot. I haven't seen a team environment like this. When it's coming from the captain and coach, to play freely, it's special. The way they (England pacers) bowled, I was ready for it. I knew they were going to bowl short.

There was a little bit in the wicket early on and we lost a couple of wickets. He (Jofra Archer) always looks good, he's a superstar. To see him and Wood operate in tandem is exciting. Venue to venue, you got to assess the conditions quickly and play well. I am really enjoying the environment. I have always been a fan of Brendon McCullum, great to be working with him.

The energy, the way we started, that set the benchmark. All the bowlers had their own plans and executed. (On picking three spinners) We wanted to stick to our strengths. All three of them are doing a wonderful job. (On Varun) He's keeping things very simple, his preparations are on point. He (Arshdeep) took the responsibility and he's been doing it consistently. There's a lot of freedom being given by Gauti bhai. We've been working hard with the fielding coach.

I am used to see such pitches in the IPL. I know there are certain lengths which is helpful for me. I try to keep it away from their arc. Every over, bowling in Eden is challenging. The last over was very challenging, but by God's grace I was successful. I can't beat batsmen with side spin. I can only beat them with bounce. I'm still 7 on 10, still more work to do.
