Delhi Capitals (DC) has named all-rounder Axar Patel as their new skipper for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season on Friday. (Full Coverage | More Cricket News)
Axar, 31, has been with DC since 2019 and was retained for INR 16.50 crore. The all-rounder replaces Rishabh Pant as the captain of the Delhi franchise ahead of the new season.
Axar has never captained in the IPL before, but on the domestic front, he has led Gujarat in domestic cricket and served as India라이브 바카라 T20I vice-captain earlier this year.
Last season, he scored 235 runs at an average of nearly 30 and took 11 wickets at an economy of 7.65.
“It is my absolute honour to captain the Delhi Capitals," stated Axar Patel, on being appointed as the captain.
“I’ve grown as a cricketer and I feel ready and confident to lead this side going forward."
Axar led DC once last season in IPL 2024, losing a match against RCB. Speaking about the current season, DC begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants in Visakhapatnam on March 24.
Last season, DC finished sixth in the IPL standings, with 14 points from as many games. This season, the franchise have roped in some marquee names, including KL Rahul for Rs 14 crore and Australian pacer Mitchell Starc for Rs 11.75 crore.
