Amidst the high tensions escalating between India and Pakistan, the MA Chidambaram Stadium has received a bomb threat, which claimed to detonate if cricket events were to be held, local police said on Friday.
The police have launched an investigation into it, with a police official stating the threat was received via an email, which warned against hosting cricket events at the M A Chidambaram stadium.
Following the receipt of the mail, a bomb disposal squad made a thorough inspection and did not find anything suspicious, police officials told PTI adding "it was a hoax."
The email was received on Thursday and it was brought to the notice of police on May 9 morning, following which an inspection was held.
Asked if this was suspected to be a handiwork of repeat offenders, the official said a probe would unmask those behind the threat.
Earlier, similar threats were received to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) via an email in the early hours of Friday which threatened to blow up the Eden Gardens and Arun Jaitley Stadium, respectively.
Till now there have been no arrests made with the police still not able to trace the location and other information of the emails.
