As tensions between India and Pakistan escalate, sirens blared across Jammu and Kashmir as Pakistan carried out a series of drone attacks in the Jammu region.

The attacks triggered the union territory to enforce a blackout. Apart from Jammu, Pakistani drones were also spotted in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer, Punjab's Pathankot and Jalandhar.

A blackout was enforced across states sharing a border with Pakistan. Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir plunged into darkness amid the fresh attacks.

This retaliation from Pakistan comes after India launched Operation Sindoor, a retaliatory military strike in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 tourists.

In Operation Sindoor, Indian Armed Forces targeted nine terror camps spread out across 21 locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

What Happened In The Night Of May 8? | Recap

  • Around 8 PM, sirens blared across the Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir after Pakistani drones were spotted in the sky. The Indian Armed Forces quickly thwarted the attack. Following the sirens, a blackout was enforced in the union territory.

  • After Jammu, Pakistani drones were also spotted in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer, Punjab's Pathankot and Jalandhar and Gujarat's Sir Creek region.

  • Blackouts were enforced across border towns with cities such as Amritsar, Bhuj, Chandigarh, Mohali and others going dark.

  • The Pakistani attacks were confirmed by the Defence Ministry, following which the ministry said India remains "fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its people".

  • "Military stations at Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur were targeted by Pakistani-origin drones and missiles along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir today," a defence ministry spokesperson said, adding that the threats "were swiftly neutralised using kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities in line with established standard operating procedures (SOPs)."

  • "No casualties or material losses were reported," the official added.

  • Amid the fresh attacks, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio dialed EAM S Jaishankar and Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif to call for an urgent de-escalation between India and Pakistan.

  • The BSF also thwarted an infiltration bid in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba along the International Border. "At around 2300 hours on 8 May 2025, BSF foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, J&K," the Border Security Force said in a post on X in the early hours of Friday.

Tensions between India and Pakistan reached a low point after the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam area. The terror attack, allegedly orchestrated by Lashkar-e-Taiba, resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, including one Nepali citizen.

Since then, India and Pakistan have downgraded their ties and exchanged regular firing across the border, bringing their ties to an all-time low.
