The latest addition to the list of uncapped players with the MI side is Raghu Sharma, a leg spinner from Punjab. He replaces Vignesh Puthur, another uncapped talent who had impressed with his left-arm wrist-spin early in the season.
Let us take a look at who is Raghu Sharma and what the leg-spinner has done so far in his young professional career.
Who is Raghu Sharma?
22-year-old Raghu Sharma is a right-arm leg-break bowler who hails from Jalandhar, Punjab, the city of great Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh.
Raghu has played 11 first class, 9 List A and 3 T20 matches for Punjab and Pondicherry. He has picked five 5-wicket hauls and three 10-wicket hauls in his first class career so far. Raghu had a good outing in the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy for Punjab, picking 14 wickets in 9 matches.
He has only played three T20s and taken three wickets in them.
Interestingly, he was bowling in the MI nets during the ongoing season and has been rewarded by the franchise for efforts.
This is the first time Raghu has found an IPL team and it seems unlikely that he will get a game with Karn Sharma and Mitchell Santner forming a strong spin duo for the Hardik Pandya-led franchise.
He has joined MI at the base price of Rs 30 lakhs.
Earlier, MI also had to replace an injured Lizaad Williams with Corbin Bosch. Now that Vignesh has been ruled out of the season due to a bone stress reactions in both shins, MI have been forced to make another replacement. Vignesh played 5 games for Mumbai Indians, picking up 6 wickets, and had a debut to remember with 3 wickets.
