Though the club did not disclose a recovery timeline, it seems doubtful that Walker will play again this season given that there are just seven games remaining in the Serie A season.
Walker joined the Italian side on loan from Manchester City in January and has featured 12 times for them so far, including eight times in Serie A.
Since joining AC Milan, Walker ranks first among players with five or more league appearances for interceptions per 90 minutes (1.05) and the times he has won possession per 90 (5.96).
The Italian side have a permanent option to buy Walker after the conclusion of his loan deal and there is as yet no news on whether they will exercise that.
AC Milan have endured a disappointing league season and are currently ninth in the table, trailing the top six in Serie A by seven points.
They do, though, have a Coppa Italia semi-final second leg coming later in the month against city rivals Inter, having drawn 1-1 in the first leg.
