45' Thibaut Courtois take a bow. Stops a header and then gets back up in time to save the rebound as well. Brilliant piece of work in goal from the Belgian and Real Madrid keep Arsenal at bay.

There comes the whistle and players head back for the break. A good back and forth so far between the defending champions and Arsenal. Both have come close to scoring on multiple ocassions but the scoreline remains 0-0.

Declan Rice has scored and Arsenal are up and running. They take the lead. Absolutely brilliant stuff from Rice. A foul and Arsenal get a free kick which Rice deposits directly inside the right post.

68' Triple save from Thibaut Courtois and it is absolutely amazing! A brilliant save to start with and then he stands tall to defend two more rebounds. What a performance so far from Courtois. He has conceded once but the form Arsenal have been in tonight, it could have been worse.

70' Declan Rice you beauty! Another free kick and he inserts the ball into the top right corner once again. What a stunning shot and what an incredible performance he is putting out there. Absolutely fantastic and Arsenal double their lead.

75' It is three-nil now. Arsenal are gunning down Real Madrid at the Emirates tonight. Mikel Merino shows perfect technique and fires from just outside the box to insert the ball into the bottom left corner. Real Madrid in proper proper pressure now. The past five minutes have totally turned the game.

The game is over and Arsenal have completely thrashed the defending champions to take a 3-0 lead in the first leg of this quarterfinal clash. Brilliant from Arsenal and sloppy performance from the holders.

Arsenal will head to the Santiago Bernabeau with a 3-0 advantage. What a phenomenal performance from the Gunners at home to take such a decisive first-leg lead. It was Declan Rice brilliance from the free-kicks which first gave Arsenal the lead and then doubled it. He was exceptional to make the ball curl into the goalpost from free-kicks. After Rice's brace, Mikel Merino scored the third goal to wrap up a brilliant night for the Gunners.

Declan Rice is the fifth player to score two direct free-kick goals in the same Champions League match, after Rivaldo, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr, and Hakim Ziyech, and the first to do so against Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will look to overturn the massive 0-3 deficit on April 16 (April 17 in India) when the two sides clash in the second leg.
