Schmeichel, who has kept a division-high 19 clean sheets in the Scottish Premiership this season, picked up the issue in Denmark's Nations League defeat to Portugal.

The 38-year-old has made 46 appearances across all competitions this campaign, but his latest setback could see him miss up to seven games for Celtic.

Rodgers' side visit St. Johnstone in the league on Sunday before hosting Kilmarnock, meeting Killie again in their Scottish Cup semi-final clash at Hampden Park.

The Scottish Cup final takes place on 24 May, with Schmeichel expected to be back available for that match, should Celtic reach the showpiece match.

"This is just something that, day by day, we'll have a look at, but the timeline that was given to us was maybe around about that," Rodgers told CelticTV.

"Kasper tends to think it might not be as long as that, but certainly in the immediate future he won't be available."

Viljami Sinisalo deputised for Schmeichel in Celtic's 3-0 Scottish Premiership win over Hearts in what was the 23-year-old's second appearance for the club.
