RB Leipzig have sacked Marco Rose after a disappointing run of results that has left them sixth in the Bundesliga. (More Football News)

Former Borussia Dortmund boss Rose was appointed by Leipzig in September 2022, replacing Domenico Tedesco.

Rose led Leipzig to DFB-Pokal glory in 2023 and then won the DFL-Supercup at the start of last season, while they finished third and fourth in the Bundesliga in 2022-23 and 2023-24 respectively.

However, a downturn in form this season has left them 23 points behind leaders Bayern Munich, while they finished 32nd in the new-format Champions League.

Saturday's loss to Rose's old club Borussia Monchengladbach was Leipzig's second defeat in the space of four league matches, and the club have decided to act.

"Marco Rose has been relieved of his duties as RB Leipzig head coach with immediate effect. His coaching team of Alexander Zickler, Marco Kurth and Frank Geideck have also left the club, along with Frank Aehlig (head of first team football)," Leipzig said in a statement on Sunday.

"The club will announce who will take over the head coach role on an interim basis in due course."

Leipzig are three points off fourth-place Mainz with seven games left to play.

Rose leaves Leipzig having won 119 of his 216 games in charge across all competitions (55.09%).
