The two-day event, titled “Harmonizing Movement: Integrating Yoga with Sports Science for Peak Performance”, brought together global thought leaders in sports medicine, nutrition, and training.

A key theme that emerged was the increasing reliance of athletes on herbal supplements and the risks associated with their unsupervised use.

Dr Wazir Singh Phogat, High Performance Director (Athletics), SAI, observed that many athletes turn to herbal products to boost endurance, strength, and recovery, often considering them safer than conventional supplements. However, experts warned that these could be just as harmful if consumed without proper guidance.

Dr Shivakumar Harti from the All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi, said herbal supplements must be prescribed based on individual needs, physiological conditions, and training load. “Their medicinal potency demands caution,” he said.

Dr Vani Bhushanam Golla, Scientific Officer (Nutrition), SAI, echoed similar concerns, warning of toxicity and hormonal imbalance from unsupervised consumption.

Adding to the alarm, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) recorded 186 doping violations among Indian athletes between April 2023 and January 2024, with athletics, weightlifting, and powerlifting being the top offenders. India remains among the top-ranked countries in global dope violations, according to WADA.

The conference also emphasised the importance of sleep in sports recovery. Dr Satbir Singh Khalsa, Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, highlighted yoga라이브 바카라 role in improving sleep quality, which he said was key to both physical and mental recovery. “Sleep should be a core aspect of an athlete라이브 바카라 training,” he stated.

Former Indian women라이브 바카라 hockey captain Rani Rampal reinforced the importance of mind control, saying yoga helped her stay composed under pressure throughout her international career.

Experts unanimously called for athlete-centric education, stronger regulation of the supplement industry, and more scientific research to validate the effectiveness and safety of herbal products in sports.
