The tournament which takes place in India's financial capital is a part of WTA 125 tournaments which is the secondary professional tennis circuit tournaments organised by the Women's Tennis Association. It is the second of the WTA 125 tournaments this year.
Latvia's Darja Semeņistaja is the defending singles champion of the Mumbai Open while in the doubles category Slovenia's Dalila Jakupović and United States' Sabrina Santamaria had lifted the title last year.
Notably, Mumbai Open was resumed after a break of four years in 2024. The first two editions of the competition took place in 2017 and 2018 before it was held up for the next four years.
