Coco, an animated fantasy comedy-drama film, which released in 2017, is set to have a sequel. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed the news on Thursday, March 20, at the studio's annual shareholder meeting, as reported by Deadline.

According to the entertainment portal, Iger said, “While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart and adventure. And we can't wait to share more soon''.

This Disney and Pixar Studios film revolves around a 12-year-old boy (Miguel) who dreams of becoming a musician despite his family's generations-old ban on music. On the Mexican holiday of Dia de Los Muertos, he finds himself in the Land of the Dead to unravel the real story of his ancestors

Coco was directed by Adrian Molina and Lee Unkrich, and it was a huge box office success. The film earned over USD 800 million worldwide at the box office.

The film also received two Academy awards in 2018- the best animated feature and best original song (Remember Me).

Coco 2 will be helmed by original directors Unkrich and Molina and will be produced by Mark Nielsen. It will hit the screens in 2029.
