Tamil director and actor SS Stanley breathed his last in on Tuesday, April 15, in Chennai, as per reports. He was 57. Stanley passed away due to health complications. He was last seen in Vijay Sethupathi starrer Maharaja.
Reportedly, he was undergoing treatment over the past few years, in a private hospital in Chennai.
His last rites will be held on April 15 evening, at the Valasaravakkam Electric Crematorium.
Stanley is best known for directing films such as April Maadhathil, Pudhukottaiyilirundu Saravan and Mercury Pookkal.
April Maadhathil, was his debut directorial. The 2002 film starred Srikanth and Sneha. The follow-up came in 2004, which was titled Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan, starring Dhanush and Aparna Pillai. It did an average business at the box office.
Next, he started working on an untitled film with Ravi Krishna and Sonia Agarwal, but unfortunately, the project didn't take off.
Stanley later, reunited with Srikanth for Mercury Pookkal, featuring Meera Jasmine as the female lead. His third film, Kizhakku Kadalkarai Salai, with Srikanth, which is also his last directorial project, tanked at the box office.
In 2015, Stanley was working on a film under AR Murugadoss’ production, but it got shelved.
Stanley also worked as an actor and played the role of Dravidian leader CN Annadurai in the 2007 film, Periyar, the biopic of Periyar EV Ramasamy. He also appeared in other films such as Andavan Kattalai, Kadugu, Sarkar, Bommai Nayagi, and Maharaja.
