Ahead of the Delhi Elections 2025, left wing parties in the national capital have decided to back one another. Uniting under the slogan 'BJP hatao, Dilli Bachao', the - Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI and CPI (Marxist-Leninist) - have come together to contest across six assembly seats.
Delhi will head to the polls on February 5, 2025 across all 70 constituencies. The counting of votes will be held on February 8, 2025 by the Election Commission of India.
Left Parties Unite For Delhi Polls
Speaking to news agency ANI, CPI-M member Brindra Karat coined the slogan "BJP hatao, DIlli bachao" (remove BJP, save Delhi), saying that the Bharatiya Janata Party has been "bulldozing" the rights of the people of Delhi and they "need to be stopped."
"Three left parties - Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI and CPI (Marxist-Leninist) - are contesting on a total of six (assembly) seats, two each. CPI(M) is contesting in Karawal Nagar and Badarpur (assembly constituency). For the rest of the seats, we have raised the slogan: 'BJP hatao, Delhi bachao (defeat BJP, save Delhi)'," Karat told ANI.
The CPI-M leader also accused the BJP of depriving the Delhi government of its "autonomy".
"Our focus is to defeat them. Where the left is not contesting, we will decide on whom to support based on our analysis. The understanding is that BJP is the most dangerous and toxic force. They must be defeated at all costs in the national capital, where their policies have eliminated the autonomy of the Delhi government which the Supreme Court had mandated. BJP is acting as bulldozer against the rights of the people of Delhi and it is essential to stop them," Karat added further.
For the Delhi assembly elections, the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party is eyeing a third term. Other parties in fray are the BJP, which swept all seven seats during the Lok Sabha Elections and the Indian National Congress.
