A group of masked unidentified people attempted to abduct the daughter and grandson of a cryptocurrency company owner in Paris on Tuesday.

The duo was attacked by at least three masked men who jumped the couple from a white van. The husband of the woman attempted to save her and was hit multiple times in the head in his efforts, BBC reported.

The incident got recorded in a video. While initially the passersby were reluctant to intervene, a shop owner from nearby helped by setting out his fire extinguisher on the three masked men.

The failed kidnap bid happened in Paris's 11th district and the Paris police brigade that oversees armed robbery is expected to investigate the attack.

The incident occurred at around 8:20 AM. The victims of the incidents are identified as relatives of the co-founder of French Bitcoin exchange platform Paymium, the AFP news agency reported.

As the couple shouted for help and the crowd gathered, the three masked men jumped back into the white van and sped off.  The family was taken to a nearby hospital.

The incident comes in the light of a similar successful kidnapping in Paris’ Rue Pache that occurred almost a week ago. French police rescued the father of a cryptocurrency millionaire who had been abducted while walking his dog. He was held for ransom.

The gang members had cut off one of his fingers when he was released three days later. Multiple arrests have been made.
