On March 17, Hindutva groups, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal allegedly burned an effigy of Aurangzeb in a green chadar Inscribed with holy quranic verses which is the holy cloth of the Muslim community which is usually offered in dargahs and post that riots like situation took place in three areas. Eyewitnesses claimed that those responsible for violence were not locals.
Shafiq Ahmad, one of the eyewitnesses said that they shouldn't burn the green cloth which did provoke the people. People did try to lodge an FIR but the police only lodged an FIR about Aurangzeb. The police weren't interested in writing an FIR regarding the burning of green kalma. This made people more aggressive.
The stone pelting was going on and the people burned the cars. The children and women were scared and the condition was very bad.
However, VHP and Bajrang Dal members have declined the allegation of burning any holy cloth and claimed that videos are doctored.
Thirteen FIRs have been registered and over 114 accused from the Muslim community have been arrested so far. Nine members from VHP and Bajrang Dal were also accused in the case but got bail on the same day.
