In a bizarre incident, a Bengaluru man's claim of spending approximately rupees 50 crore for a rare breed of "wolfdog" called Cadabomb Okami alerted the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Smelling a possibility of corruption or violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), the federal investigation agency sent a team of officials at his residence on Thursday.
According to a report by NDTV, ED officials raided S Satish's residence and also interrogated him over the dog which he claimed to have purchased in February.
However, clarity is still awaited concerning the real breed of the dog. While Satish reportedly claimed that the dog was of foreign origin, reports suggest that the dog appears to be of Indian breed. However, a detailed probe is underway and the interrogation is still going on.
50 Crore For A Dog, ED Sifts Bank Account
Citing a report by the New York Post, NDTV reported that Satish, who is also the president of the Indian Dog Breeders Association, spent a fortune of 5.7 million USD to purchase the dog.
"I spent $5.7 million on buying this pup because I am fond of dogs and like to own unique dogs and introduce them to India", Satish said, according to the report.
While conducting the raid, the ED team reportedly checked Satish's bank account and did not come across any huge transaction around the time the dog was allegedly purchased which gave rise to questions over the use of the hawala route for payment.
Answering ED official's questions on his earning, Satish reportedly said he earns by showing off his rare breed dogs to excited crowds which costs anywhere between 2,800 USD for 30 minutes to 11,700 USD for five hours.
"I spend money on these dogs because they are rare. Besides, I get enough money because people are always curious to see them," he explained. "They take selfies and pictures. My dog and I get more attention than an actor at a movie screening. We both are crowd-pullers," he reportedly said.
"There is enough space for them to walk and run. There are six people to look after them," he said, adding: "They don't need an air conditioner as the weather in the city is cool but they are well taken care of."
About The Dog
This allegedly unique "wolfdog" called Cadabomb Okami is reportedly a cross between a wolf and a Caucasian Shepherd and is believed to be the first of its kind. It is also considered to be one of the world's most expensive dogs.
NDTV said the eight-month old dog was reportedly born in the United States and eats 3 kg of raw meat every day.
Amongst all the fancy breeds he owns, there is also a rare Chow Chow, which he said he bought for about 3.25 million USD last year. All these dogs are well taken care of.
