The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on April 19 launched a strong criticism of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of neglecting the victims of the Murshidabad violence due to what it described as a bias against Hindus.

At a press conference held at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, party MP and national spokesperson Sambit Patra said, “She harbors animosity towards Hindus,” in response to a question about Banerjee's absence from the violence-hit area.

Patra further claimed that had the victims been from the Muslim community, Banerjee would have taken to the streets in protest and personally visited the site.

He also targeted the Communist Party of India (Marxist), alleging that the party distanced itself from two victims of the violence—reportedly its own workers—because they were Hindus.

“Those who were killed in the violence were communist party workers. Neither the communist party nor Mamata Banerjee owns them. Their only fault is that their names are Hargobind and Chandan," the BJP leader said.
