Amid the Trump tariffs war, the Chinese Embassy in India has issued over 85,000 visas to Indian citizens between January 1 and April 9, 2025, underscoring China's efforts to strengthen people-to-people ties between the two nation.

Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong warmly invites Indians to explore China, promising an 'open, safe, and friendly environment' for visitors.

Xu said in a post on microblogging website X, "As of April 9, 2025, the Chinese Embassy and Consulates in India have issued more than 85,000 visas to Indian citizens traveling to China this year. Welcome more Indian friends to visit China, experience an open, safe, vibrant, sincere and friendly China."

China Issues Visas

The number of visas is seeing a significant increase, with 85,000 visas issued in the first four months of 2025 alone, compared to 180,000 in 2023. Last year, the Chinese Embassy updated its visa application requirements, introducing several key exemptions.

No online appointment is needed for Indian applicants. They can directly submit their visa applications at visa centers on working days.

Applicants for short-term, single-entry or double-entry visas for stays of up to 180 days are exempt from providing biometric data, such as fingerprints.

The Chinese Embassy has also reduced visa application fees and introduced new, lower rates for applicants.

Trump's Tariff Hike

The big move by China comes at a time when the Trump administration is imposing tariff hikes on almost every country.

Recently, Trump has raised US tariffs on Chinese imports to 145 percent, a significant increase.

In a retaliatory move, China has imposed a 125 percent tariff on American products.
