Congress' Assam unit spokesperson Reetam Singh was arrested on Saturday regarding a social media post he made inquiring about the cases against certain BJP leaders. Following his arrest, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh slammed the BJP state government and demanded Singh's release.

"The arrest of my young colleague Reetam Singh for a perfectly reasonable social media post is worse than atrocious, Mr. Chief Minister," stated Ramesh on X.

However, in response to Jairam Ramesh, Assam Chief Minister defended Singh's arrest and doubled down on the Congress party.

"Sir, this case pertains to a caste-based insult directed at a Dalit woman. If you justify calling the husband of a Dalit woman a rapist as a 'perfectly reasonable' social media post, it speaks volumes about the direction in which you people have taken the Congress party. But, just wait--the big revelation is yet to come- The nexus of your senior leader with ISI and Pakistan will be exposed by September,” Mr Sarma responded on X.

Why Was Reetam Singh Arrested?

The Assam Congress spokesperson was arrested on Saturday for a social media post he made. As per reports, Singh enquired about the status of cases registered against three senior BJP leaders, including a former state chief and two serving MLAs.

Taking to X, Singh wrote - "These culprits got punishment they deserved But what @BJP4Assam r@pe accused Ministers and MLAs like Manab Deka, Ex Party President Bhabesh Kalita, ex Minister Rajen Gohain? Is law equal for all?"

The Congress leader was arrested after a complaint was filed by BJP MLA Manab Deka라이브 바카라 wife. He was arrested by a team of officials from the Lakhimpur police.

However, Singh has claimed he was arrested without a warrant or a notice.
