As tension intensifies in Delhi's Seelampur area after residents put up posters outside their homes protesting against the death of a 17-year-old boy on Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assured that “no stone will be left unturned” to deliver justice to the family, as per media reports.
According to Delhi Police, “A 17-year-old boy was stabbed in the Seelampur area. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed during treatment. A case has been registered at PS Seelampur, and teams have been deployed to identify and arrest the culprit. Investigation is underway.”
According to locals the incident was reported around 7:38 pm on Thursday from the J Block locality in New Seelampur.
Videos on social media showed that the incident triggered public outrage in the locality. Residents of the area were seen blocking a road in presence of police.
The incident also has a communal narrative as the protesters alleged that Muslim men killed the boy due to an old enmity. They are also seeking “justice through the Yogi Adityanath model,” as they say that the Hindu community is not safe in this area.
They have also put a poster saying bulldozer action is needed in Seelampur. Among a section of people, the Uttar Pradesh chief minister is also known as 'bulldozer baba' due to his increasing deployment of the machine to 'maintain law and order' in Uttar Pradesh.
Taking cognisance of the development, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta confirmed that she had spoken to the Police Commissioner regarding the murder and the names of the accused have come to light.
“The police are doing their job, and justice will be delivered to the family. No stone will be left unturned,” she assured, adding that the police are actively investigating the case.
About The Incident
As per media reports, the teen was killed in front of his father, Rajbir Singh, who works as an auto-rickshaw driver. “I saw 4-5 boys stabbing my son,” he said. He further claimed, “Many Hindus have already sold their homes and left. Many more are planning to leave", according to a report by India Today.
According to police, the deceased teen, later identified as Kunal, was taken to JPC Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
In view of the escalating tension in the area, police have beefed up security in the area. A senior officer told PTI, "We have stepped up security and removed people from the streets. We are ensuring that law and order is maintained." On Thursday, a team from the Seelampur police station reached the hospital after receiving information about the boy's death. A crime team was called to inspect the scene of the stabbing.
A case has been registered at Seelampur police station and multiple teams have been deployed to identify and nab the accused, the police said.
'Lady Don' Behind The Murder?
Police sources told PTI that the murder was orchestrated by a woman referred to as "Lady Don", who wanted to avenge her brother's stabbing. "She wanted to take revenge for her brother's stabbing and had formed her own gang. She also recently went to jail in a case", they claimed.
Rajbir reportedly identified the culprits, including women who was involved in the case. , “Sahil was there, along with his friends. A girl named Zikra was also nearby”, as per India Today.
Rajbir initially claimed that Zikra had threatened his son, although his son had no enmity with anyone. As per reports, Zikra posts her videos on social media and is referred to as “Lady Don” in the area. However, police say that so far, the investigation has not found any role of Zikra in the case.
