A 17-year-old girl was brutally stabbed in the Delhi Cantonment area on Monday. The minor girl was in critical condition after a 20-year-old man stabbed the girl multiple times for rejecting his marriage proposal. As per the latest reports, the 17-year-old girl is now out of danger.
Speaking to PTI, officials stated that they were able to get the statement of the girl on Tuesday after she regained consciousness.
"We recorded her statement (earlier), but she was not conscious for a long time. We are waiting for her to recuperate. Once she is in the condition to talk properly, we will record her detailed statement," stated officials.
The incident sent shockwaves across the region after the act was captured by bystanders on mobile phones in public view.
As per police officials, the accused has been identified as a 20-year-old Amit, who stabbed the girl in the neck and the abdomen after she rejected his marriage proposal.
Amit then proceeded to try and end his own life by stabbing himself.
Both the accused and the victim were shifted to the hospital immediately.
“Both the accused and the victim were shifted to the hospital immediately. The girl sustained critical injuries to her neck and abdomen. A knife was recovered from the scene,” said DCP (Southwest) Surendra Choudhary.
Initial investigation has revealed that Amit and the girl knew each other for a year. Officials added that the two recently had a falling out after the girl refused to marry him, which triggered Amit to commit the heinous act.
