The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rains in Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and parts of Kerala.
The alert has been issued as summer rains gain traction with winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.

In Tamil Nadu, a yellow alert has been issued for heavy rainfall in Chennai and other isolated parts of the state.
This rainy weather is expected to last through Saturday, April 6.
The weather office has identified 14 distrcts, in the south and along the Western Ghats, to experience rainfall.
Districts such as Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri are expected to see heavy showers on Friday, April 5.
In Bengaluru, heavy showers are expected to continue over the weekend. In its advisory, the IMD stated that the rain will bring relief from the scorching heat in Bangalore, which hit the state early.
However, as Bengaluru braces for a rainy week, the problem of waterlogging remains. Along with Bangalore, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Mysuru, Hassan, Kodagu, and Chamarajanagar have been placed under a yellow alert.
In Telangana, a yellow alert has been issued for Hyderabad. As per the IMD, the city is expected to witness widespread rain, gusty winds and a hailstorm. The IMD has also issued thunderstorm warning for all districts in the southern state.
In Kerala, a yellow alert has been issued for five districts on Friday. As per the weather bulletin, the yellow rain alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki.
