Kunal Kamra Moves Bombay HC Over Shinde Row, Seeks Cancellation Of FIRs Against Him; Plea To Be Heard On April 8

Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra on Monday moved the Bombay High Court challenging the "validity, correctness and propriety" of the FIR registered against him for making a seditious remark on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in his stand-up show 'Naya Bharat'.

Kamra's counsel Navroz Seervai mentioned the petition before a bench of Justices Sarang Kotwal and S M Modak on Monday, seeking an urgent hearing.

The bench said it would hear the plea on Tuesday.

Seervai informed the bench that Kamra has got interim relief from the Madras High Court till Monday, but despite that the Mumbai police keep issuing him summons to appear before them, PTI reported.

According to India Today, Kamra also sought quashing of the FIR lodged against him at the Khar police station on March 24 on the basis of a complaint by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel.

Kamra's latest move follows a third summons from the Mumbai Police on April 2, requiring him to appear for questioning on April 5.

On March 23, 2025, Kunal Kamra posted a pre-recorded video on his YouTube channel named ‘Naya Bharat’, a parody song, where he addressed Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as ‘Gaddar (traitor) over Shinde라이브 바카라 political controversy in 2022. Though Kamra has not mentioned anyone라이브 바카라 name, people are speculating it라이브 바카라 about Deputy CM Shinde.

The video got over 12 million views in only 9 days, which has sparked a strong backlash. Regarding this video, a few followers of Shiv Sena ransacked and vandalised Habitat Club, where the video was recorded. Currently three cases have been filed against Kamra regarding his recent statement.
