As a strong earthquake of 7.7 magnitude shook the central region of Myanmar on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concerns over the ongoing situation in the country. The prime minister also assured all possible assistance to the disaster-hit country. The tremors also largely affected the neighbouring nation, Thailand.
Taking it to X, PM Modi posted, “Concerned by the situation in the wake of the Earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. Praying for the safety and wellbeing of everyone. India stands ready to offer all possible assistance. In this regard, asked our authorities to be on standby. Also asked the MEA to remain in touch with the Governments of Myanmar and Thailand."
This came days before the prime minister is set to embark on a two-nation tour of Thailand and Sri Lanka next week with a broad focus on boosting regional cooperation.
PM Modi is scheduled to visit Bangkok on April 3 to 4 to participate in the sixth BIMSTEC Summit being hosted by Thailand. It will be the prime minister라이브 바카라 third visit to Thailand, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday.
A massive 7.7 magnitude earthquake followed by an aftershock of 6.8 magnitude, struck central Myanmar on Friday. Several videos on social media showed how several buildings collapsed due to the strong effect of the earthquake.
Tremors were felt as far away as northern Thailand, where some metro and rail services were suspended in Bangkok.
