Pahalgam Militant Attack LIVE Updates: Several tourists were injured in a militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on Tuesday, officials said. According to PTI, gunshots were heard in Baisaran valley in Pahalgam following which security forces rushed there. Initial reports suggested a possible terror attack at a site frequented by tourists.

In view of the development, PM Modi, who currently is in Saudi Arabia, held a telephonic conversation with Home Minister Amit Shah where he asked him to take all suitable measures and visit the site. The Home Minister is currently on his way to Srinagar to review the situation.

In a strong response to the incident, the prime minister said, "I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected. Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice...they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger."

Taking cognisance of the tragic incident, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said, " I’m shocked beyond belief. This attack on our visitors is an abomination. The perpetrators of this attack are animals, inhuman & worthy of contempt. No words of condemnation are enough. I send my sympathies to the families of the deceased. I’ve spoken to my colleague  & she has moved to the hospital to oversee arrangements for the injured. I’ll be flying back to Srinagar immediately."

"The death toll is still being ascertained so I don’t want to get in to those details. They will be officially conveyed as the situation becomes clearer. Needless to say this attack is much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years."

Commenting on the development, police said several tourists are injured in a militant attack in Pahalgam in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The area is approachable only on foot or horses, according to officials. IG Kashmir V K Birdi told 바카라, "It라이브 바카라 a non-motorable road. Firing has been heard." However, any confirmation on the numbers regarding injuries or deaths are yet to be disclosed by the officials.

As per media reports, at least twelve people were injured in the terror attack targeting tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.

The attack took place at around 2:30 pm on Tuesday afternoon when a group of terrorists, dressed in fatigues, opened fire on tourists in Pahalgam's Baisaran meadow.

Speaking to 바카라, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakina Itoo, told that 1 tourist has died so far while 13 others were injured and have been hospitalized at several places in Kashmir.

“ One of the tourists was airlifted from Pahalagm to SKIMS Soura and is under treatment. In all, we have received thirteen others who were wounded in the attack.” Itoo personally visited the hospitals in southern Kashmir to assess the condition of the injured.

In her reaction to the tragic incident, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti posted on X, " I strongly condemn the cowardly attack on tourists in Pahalgam, which tragically killed five and injured several as being reported for now . Such violence is unacceptable and must be denounced. Historically, Kashmir has welcomed tourists warmly, making this rare incident deeply concerning. A thorough investigation is needed to bring the perpetrators to justice and examine potential security lapses. Ensuring visitor safety is paramount, and steps must be taken to prevent future attacks. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families."

Expressing concern over the incident, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, "The news of the death of tourists and injuries to many in the cowardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir is extremely condemnable and heartbreaking. I express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and hope for the speedy recovery of the injured. The whole country is united against terrorism. Instead of making hollow claims of the situation being normal in Jammu and Kashmir, the government should now take accountability and take concrete steps so that such barbaric incidents do not happen in the future and innocent Indians do not lose their lives like this.

The Amarnath massacre of 2000 was a coordinated terror attack which took place across three days - from August 1 to 3, in five different places. While official counts state at least 89 people were killed, PTI reported 105 people were declared dead due to the attack by Islamist militants in the Anantnag district of Doda.

The 26 dead included two foreigners and two locals, a high ranking official said without getting into details. The toll is still being ascertained, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said while describing the terror attack as “much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years".

The attack, which comes as US Vice President J D Vance is visiting India and just as the tourist and trekking season is picking up momentum, took place around 3 pm, officials said.

Taking cognisance of the deadly incident in Pahalgam, US Vice-President JD Vance, who currently is visiting India, said, "Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack."

Expressing concern over the incident, President Droupadi Murmu posted, "The terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam of Jammu and Kashmir is shocking and painful. It is a dastardly and inhuman act which must be condemned unequivocally. Attacking innocent citizens, in this case tourists, is utterly appalling and unpardonable. My heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their dear ones and my prayers for the quick recovery of the injured."

Indian Navy Officer, Lieutenant Vinay Narwal (aged 26 years), who was posted in Kochi, has been killed in the Pahalgam attack while he was on leave. He is a native of Haryana and got married on 16 April, according to Defence officials

Home Ministry reportedly compiled names of 16 people who died in the deadly attack.

PDP chief and former J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti appealed to Kashmiri people to unite in solidarity with a bandh called by The Chamber & Bar Association Jammu.

"The Chamber & Bar Association Jammu has called for a complete shutdown tomorrow in protest against the horrific militant attack on tourists. I appeal all Kashmiris to unite in solidarity to support this bandh as a mark of respect for the innocent lives lost in the brutal assault in Pahalgam. This isn’t just an attack on a select few—it is an attack on all of us. We stand together in grief and outrage & strongly support this shutdown to condemn the massacre of innocents."
