Amid Ram Navami festivities across India, security has been tightened across states. As per officials, the heightened security is in order to maintain a peaceful celebration and to prevent any untoward incident.
States such as Maharashtra, Jharkhand, West Bengal and many more have increased security for the Ram Navami festivities.
Ram Navami Celebrations: Tight Security Across States
In Jharkhand, police personnel have been deployed in "sensitive" districts such as Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Giridih and Hazaribag.
Speaking to PTI, officials further added that CCTV cameras, drones and security personnel equipped with video cameras have been deployed at key locations.
In Mumbai, over 13,5000 police personnel have been deployed for duty to monitor Ram Navami celebrations. This increase in security comes following the March 17 violence in Nagpur.
"There would be 11,000 constables, 2,500 officers, 51 Assistant Commissioners of Police and 20 Deputy Commissioners of Police on duty. Nine State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) platoons will also be on the streets apart from other specialised units," an official told PTI.
In West Bengal, police beefed up security measures across the state as large religious processions are carried out.
As per a senior police official, around 60 rallies are expected to be carried out on Ram Navami. For this, over 3,500 police personnel have been deployed for supervision.
Senior IPS officials will also be monitoring the situation in parts of Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, Asansol in Paschim Bardhaman, Purba Bardhaman, Malda, Murshidabad, Jalpaiguri and Siliguri.
