The Supreme Court will hear the petitions challenging the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 on April 16.

A bench of CJI Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice KV Viswanathan will hear the matters, Live Law reported.

A total of nine petitions are listed.

The Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, came into force on April 8, a notification of The Gazette of India announced.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 1 of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 (14 of 2025), the Central Government hereby appoints the 8th day of April, 2025 as the date on which the provisions of the said Act shall come into force,” the notification said.

The Gazette of India is an authorised legal document of the Government of India where the government's statutory orders and notifications are published.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the amendments in Waqf Act in 2013 were aimed at appeasing Muslim fundamentalists and land mafia. "New Waqf law will secure sacredness of Waqf and also rights of poor, backwards and women among Muslims," PM Modi said at the News18 Rising India Summit.

Politics Over Waqf Amendment Act

Janta Dal (United) has witnessed a wave of resignations since the Waqf Amendment bill was passed. As of now dozens of Muslim leaders and workers, who held positions in the JD(U)라이브 바카라 state committee in Bihar have left the party.

Thousands of people took to the streets in Kolkata, Chennai, and Ahmedabad on Friday after weekly prayers to protest the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025. In Kolkata, visuals showed large crowds waving the national flag and holding up posters that read "We reject the Waqf amendment" and "Reject Waqf Bill" as they gathered at public meeting sites. Many of these protests, according to news agency ANI, were organized by the Joint Forum for Waqf Protection.
