Pakistan-origin Canadian businessman Tahawwur Rana was grilled by the National Investigation Agency for a second day over his alleged role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
As per a report by PTI, Rana was grilled regarding his alleged involvement in the 2008 attacks, which includes a large number of phone calls between him and co-conspirator David Coleman Headley alias Daood Gilani.
Sources further told PTI that Rana will also be grilled accordingly regarding the individuals he met, including a key contact in Dubai.
Rana was brought to India after the US government approved the 26/11 accused's extradition. He has been remanded to 18-day NIA custody.
During this custody, Rana has allegedly been placed on suicide watch.
Furthermore, during the interrogation, NIA officials had stated that Rana had a similar plan to 26/11 for other Indian cities.
"His (Rana) prolonged custody has been deemed necessary to facilitate an extensive interrogation aimed at uncovering deeper layers of the conspiracy. We suspect that the tactics used in the Mumbai attacks were intended for execution in other cities as well, prompting investigators to examine whether similar plots were developed elsewhere," the NIA is believed to have informed special NIA judge Chander Jit Singh late Thursday while presenting its arguments, sources said.
As per a report by Hindustan Times, Rana has asked for three things in his cell - a Quran, pen and paper. The 26/11 accused continues to remain under 24/7 human and CCTV surveillance and is allowed to meet with his lawyer in the presence of NIA officials.
