Subhash Chandra, founder of Zee TV has issued a public apology to actress Rhea Chakraborty days after the Central Bureau of Investigation filed a closure report in the death case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput where they officially ruled out any 'foul play' and confirmed it to be a suicide case.
Chandra is a media veteran and former Rajya Sabha MP and he admitted "Rhea Chakarborty was made out an accused by media" which includes the journalists at Zee TV back in 2020 when the incident took place.
When actor Sushant Singh Rajput died, Chakraborty was in a relationship with him and allegations of abetment to suicide were made against her which led to a media frenzy which several netizens have called to be a 'modern day witch hunt'.
What Did Subhash Chandra Say?
subhash Chandra took to X platform to speak about the issue and admitted that Rhea Chakraborty was unfairly treated by the media persons, especially in his company.
He said, “In Sushant Rajput murder case, CBI has filed closure report. I believe it is due to lack of credible evidence. No scope for ambiguity, hence it means no case is made out. In retrospect I feel that Rhea Chakraborty was made out an accused by media, led by Zee News through its editor and reporters (at that time)."
He further added, “Others followed Zee News. As mentor of Zee News, advise them to be brave and apologize. I do apologize to Rhea, even with no involvement of mine. I am like ‘एक मुख रुद्राक्ष’ — बाहर और अंदर एक समान। Call spade a spade. Subhash."
The allegations made against Rhea Chakraborty included "abetment to suicide, financial misappropriation, and later arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with an alleged drug angle", reported News 18.
Chakraborty was also arrested briefly for the case and had to deal with harsh media interactions while people called out the invasion of her privacy attempted by several media persons.
Due to lack of evidence, Chakraborty was granted bail and in March 2025, when CBI filed the closure report on the case cancelling any foul play in the death of Rajput, it is being pointed out by many about the wrong side of media.
Sushant Singh Rajput killed himself at his Mumbai apartment on June 14, 2020. His friends, family and fans were utterly shocked by his sudden demise and found it hard to believe about the reason for death from the preliminary investigation.
