Gujarat Titans (GT) have roped in former Sri Lanka T20I skipper Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for the injured Glenn Phillips for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. (Schedule | Teams | Points Table)
Shanaka replaces Phillips who suffered an unfortunate groin injury during Gujarat Titans' match against SunRisers Hyderabad on April 12, and the Kiwi was unable to continue and was sent back home.
Speaking of Dasun Shanaka, an all-rounder by trade, he has scored 1456 runs in 102 T20Is for Sri Lanka along with 33 T20I wickets to his name. He has also played 71 ODIs and 6 Tests for Sri Lanka.
"Gujarat Titans all-rounder Glenn Phillips has returned to New Zealand following a groin injury he sustained during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6. Gujarat Titans wish Glenn a speedy recovery," GT's statement claimed.
Shanaka has played for the GT franchise during the 2023 season. The all-rounder featured in 3 IPL matches for the former champions, scoring 26 runs at an average of 13.00, at a strike rate of 100.
The Sri Lankan all-rounder will join GT for INR 75 Lakh.
