Mumbai Indians (MI) suffered a massive blow ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League season as their bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has reportedly been ruled out of the first games of IPL 2025. (More Cricket News)

Multiple media reports suggested that the pacer, who suffered a back injury in January during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, is still recovering after surgery and would thus be able to join the MI squad only in April. Even that is subject to clearance from the medical team at BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

IPL 2025 begins March 22 while MI kickstart their campaign a day later on against Chennai Super Kings. In March, the Hardik Pandya-led side plays CSK (March 21), Gujarat Titans (March 29) and then Kolkata Knight Riders (March 31).

Five-time champions MI have had a rough last few years. They finished at the bottom of the standings last season and also in 2022.

In 2023, MI made it to the play-offs and even that season Bumrah had missed the IPL due to injury. The pacer has been prone to back injuries due to his different bowling action. Recently, MI bowling coach Shane Bond stated that if Bumrah suffers another back injury in the spot where he had had the surgery, it could be a "career ender".
