The Kolkata Knight Riders will aim to continue their upward surge when they lock horns with the Lucknow Super Giants in match 21 of the Indian Premier League 2025 at the Eden Gardens.

The Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to bowl first against Lucknow Super Giants at the Eden Gardens.

Lucknow Super Giants will open their innings with the in-form duo of Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram. 27-year-old Vaibhav Arora, the hero against SunRisers Hyderabad, will start the bowling for KKR.

A big, 12-run over from Spencer Johnson has given a boost to Lucknow Super Giants. Markram got the first boundary of the innigs, and then Markram sent the fourth ball to the stands for a maximum.

With Vaibhav Arora excellent in his opening two overs, LSG batters will look to target the other bowlers in the powerplay overs.

Rahane's decision to bring on spin has not paid off. After Markram's onslaught on Johnson and Harshit Rana, now Aiden Markram has joined in the fun. After a maximum off Rana's fifth ball, the South African has gone after Sunil Narine, hitting one six and one four in the seventh over. LSG are making the most of the opening partnership.

What a comeback from Harshit Rana. After being smashed for a boundary in the first ball, Rana stuck to his strengths. A terrific, slower corker from the pacer, and it hits the off stump. The opening partnership is broken at 99, and Markram misses out on a successive fifty.

Markram's wicket has not slowed down LSG's onslaught at all. Nicholas Pooran is always a fearful sight for bowlers, but it is Mitch Marsh who is dictating proceedings at Eden Gardens right now. Harshit Rana, Vaibhav Arora, Spencer Johnson - no one is safe from his bat at the moment, and he looks unplayable at the moment.

Marsh launches against Varun Chakaravarthy for a huge six straight down the field, taking the partnership with Pooran to 50 from 23 balls. The first innings is not looking good for the home side at the moment - and to think that Pooran hasn't even started firing on all cylinders yet.

Finally, KKR get their man! After a terrific knock, Mitchell Marsh finally falls to a short ball from Andre Russell. Marsh's shot does not have the pace it needs to cross the boundary, and Rinku Singh takes a good catch.

Question must be asked why Rahane left it this late to bring on Russell. Abdul Samad is on the pitch.

Nicholas Pooran reaches his half-century in style, dispacting a big, successive maximum off Harshit Rana. 51 off just 21 runs for the West Indian today.

With Nicholas Pooran dealing in sixes at the moment, Abdul Samad tries to go big, and an off cutter from Harshit Rana hits his leg and then the stumps. A second for Harshit today, but the danger man is still on the pitch for LSG.

LSG batters have put up a giant total of 238 in the first innings, which is the third-highest total at the Eden Gardens in IPL.

All things considered, it was a decent final over from Vaibhav Arora, conceding "only" 11 runs. A tough chase awaits KKR in the second-innings.

KKR begin their giant chase with the left-handed pair of Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine. Akash Deep with the ball.

Sunil Narine is in mood, and he his going after pretty much every ball. Whether intentionally or not, most of it are running to the boundary at the moment. If KKR have a chance in this chase, Narine needs to carry in this form.

What a display of confidence from Rishabh Pant! After burning a review against Quinton de Kock, the LSG skipper goes for another review in the very next ball, this time for LBW. Reviews show that the ball pitched just in line, and would have hit the stumps right in the middle.

Despite the de Kock set back, KKR end the Powerplay at 90/1, averaging 15 runs an over. Ajinkya Rahane is batting at 35 from 15 balls, while Sunil Narine is at 30 off 12 balls. This partnership is giving home to the home side dugout and the crowd.

KKR need 149 runs from 84 balls.

KKR 90/1 in 6 overs

Narine's "swing and hope" style finally goes wrong, and a slashing shot is caught at long-off by Markram. The slower pace and the wide angle seems to have beaten the West Indian. A dangerous partnership comes to an end for KKR. Venkatesh Iyer on the pitch now.

Digvesh pulls out his "writing on notebook" celebration despite two fines, but this time writes on the grass.

On a day when all and sundry are being hit outside the park, Digvesh Rathi has essentially stemmed the flow of runs with two tight overs, a lucky edge off Venkatesh Iyer running to the ropes notwithstanding.

KKR's run rate has dropped below 13, and the required rate is slightly above 11.

A captain's knock from Ajinkya Rahane, who gets his fifty in just 26 balls. A strike rate of 196 from the veteran, who was bought for just INR 1.5 crore by KKR.

KKR need 103 runs from 54 balls.

Lord Shardul strikes! LSG get the danger man Rahane, who tries to hit a full toss from Shardul Thakur. It flies to cover, and an easy catch from Nicholas Pooran means Rahane goes back for 61. Ramandeep Singh is in.

That's two wickets in two overs for Lucknow! After Ravi Bishnoi's full toss goes from Ramandeep's bat straight to Aiden Markram, it is Raghuvanshi's turn. He youngster tries a reverse shot after hitting a boundary, but the ball flies into wicketkeeper Pant's gloves. LSG well and truly back in the game now.

KKR need 66 runs from 30 balls.

KKR 173/5 in 15 overs

It's all going wrong for KKR now. Venkatesh Iyer gets a leading edge from Akash Deep's ball, and Aiden Markram adds one more catch to his collection. Iyer looks so disappointed, and rightly so, as he was in a good position to lead the chase over the line. Now it's all up to Andre Russell and Rinku Singh, both of them not having faced any balls yet.

That's four wickets in four overs for LSG. Dre Russell hits a full toss from Shardul, but the connection is not sweet, and an excellent catch from David Miller. LSG are now in charge.

Kolkata Knight Riders reach 200 in the 18th over. Rinku Singh has hit the odd boundary here and there, but Harshit Rana is playing with sub-100 strike rate.

14 runs in the 19th over from Avesh Khan - not bad, considering the circumstances. Rinku hits a four off the last ball of the over, and KKR now need 24 runs off the final six balls. Crucially, it's Harshit Rana on strike.

KKR 215/7 in 19 overs

So close, yet so far for KKR! Nitish Rana began the over hitting a four off Bishnoi, but the spinner game him no room to hit the big shots. Rinku finished the over with two fours and a six, but KKR fall four short of what would have been a chase for the history books.

KKR 234/7 in 20 overs

Nicholas Pooran won the Player of the Match award for his blistering knock of 87 off 36 balls, hitting at a strike rate of 241 with eight sixes.
