Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) created history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction when they bought Indian star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant for Rs 27 crore--the highest in IPL history. (Full Coverage | More Cricket News)

The decision made even more headlines as LSG had released their former captain KL Rahul, who led the team for three seasons. Pant, who was not retained by Delhi Capitals, was one of the most talked-about names in the auction. Breaking the record of Punjab Kings buying Shreyas Iyer for Rs 26.75 crore, LSG added Pant to their squad, who will now lead the team as their captain.

Before the auction, LSG had retained five players: Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav, Nicholas Pooran, and Ayush Badoni. Pant's arrival will give LSG a new aggressive leadership, and a strengthened batting lineup. With Mohsin and Mayank already in the team, Akash Deep라이브 바카라 arrival will help LSG improve their pace bowling attack. LSG also acquired the services of Avesh Khan with the Right to Match (RTM) card.

LSG now has a great Indian fast-bowling attack, which will give them a chance to use their overseas players in the batting department. LSG also bought foreign stars like David Miller, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh in their team at the auction.

LSG squad for IPL 2025

Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Ayush Badoni, Rishabh Pant, David Miller, Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, Avesh Khan, Abdul Samad, Aryan Juyal, Akash Deep, Himmat Singh, M. Siddharth, Digvesh Singh, Shahbaz Ahmed, Akash Singh, Shamar Joseph, Prince Yadav, Yuvraj Chaudhary, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Arshin Kulkarni, Matthew Breetzke.

Strength

The strength of LSG's bowling attack is their Indian fast bowling unit. Mayank Yadav, who is currently India's fastest bowler, will be the pivot of the team's pace attack. However, his availability is under scrutiny as he is currently at NCA, Bengaluru recovering from a back injury. Mayank has started bowling in nets on Monday ahead of the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) await fitness clearance from the BCCI. He played only 4 matches last season but took 7 wickets at an average of 12.14. If sources are to be believed, Mayank may not be available for half the season.

Mayank will be accompanied by Mohsin Khan, who has been brought back into the team, is an experienced T20 bowler and has taken 27 IPL wickets across three seasons. Akash Deep was bought for Rs 8 crore, adding another fast bowler depth to the team. Shamar Joseph is present in the team as a foreign fast bowler.

In batting, Nicholas Pooran will be the most reliable player of the team. He has scored 857 runs in 29 matches for LSG so far and his strike rate is 175.97. The presence of Rishabh Pant has strengthened the middle order of the team. This will be the first time Pant will play for another IPL franchise. He has 3284 runs in the IPL and scored 446 runs in the 2024 season.

Ayush Badoni is important for the future of the team and he will have to prove his ability. David Miller and Mitchell Marsh will be the key foreign batsmen of the team. Miller is an experienced finisher, while Marsh can give an aggressive start in the top order. Aiden Markram has also been included in the team, but his IPL performance has not been that effective.

Weakness

Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan and Avesh Khan are all currently at NCA waiting for approval from the medical team of BCCI. One of them can be replaced by Akash Deep but if a couple get ruled out, LSG could be in for a tough time.

Although the LSG team looks strong, their opening pair remains a matter of concern. Marsh has been backed for this role, but his injury and form in the IPL have always been a problem. Last season, he scored just 61 runs in 4 matches. If Marsh fails, Markram can be tried for opening, but his IPL record is also not that great. The team also has 23-year-old Aryan Juyal and Matthew Breetzke as opening options, but both of them have not played IPL yet.

Ravi Bishnoi will be the main bowler in the spin department, but the team looks a bit weak here. Shahbaz Ahmed and M. Siddharth have been included in the team to support him, but this pair does not look very effective. Ahmed conceded runs at an economy of 9+ last season and has taken only 21 wickets in the IPL. Siddharth has played only 3 matches in the IPL, which exposes the weakness of the spin department.

Opportunity

LSG do have the opportunity to make the most threatening middle order ever assembled in the league. Pant, Pooran and Miller are all some of the fiercest hitters on the planet and if the highly-talented Abdul Samad finds his groove. Opposition sides will be under tremendous pressure against this middle order.

Threat

If LSG's bowlers stay fit and the batting order performs well, this team can make it to the top-4. LSG will be a team to watch out for in IPL 2025. LSG's team looks strong, but there are some major weaknesses too. If their spin department doesn't get a boost and the opening combination fails, the team could face difficulties. However, the presence of match-winners like Pant and Pooran makes them a dangerous team.
