Simone Inzaghi believed Inter put their heart and soul into their 1-0 defeat against Roma on Sunday, but it wasn't enough as their Serie A title hopes were dented. (More Football News)

Inzaghi watched on as Matias Soule struck the decisive blow at the San Siro in the 22nd minute, opening the door for second-placed Napoli to capitalise.

It marked a week to forget for Inter, who suffered a third straight defeat in all competitions after being eliminated by rivals AC Milan in the Coppa Italia in midweek.

Indeed, it is the first time since February 2012 that Inter have lost three successive games across all competitions without scoring (five under Claudio Ranieri).

It was also the first time that Inter had lost three consecutive matches in all competitions for the first time since December 2017, when Luciano Spalletti was in charge.

"This week we come from three defeats which hurt, but the squad tried with great lucidity," Inzaghi told DAZN.

"In the first half, we put our hearts into it, the fans saw that. Unfortunately, an important game lost at home, but the embrace of our supporters made us happy, despite defeat.

"In the second half we put our soul on the pitch as always and they will always have my gratitude. We deserved more, but this is football."

Though Inter may find themselves second in Serie A at the end of play on Sunday, they have little time to ponder on their defeat in Serie A.

Inzaghi's team face Barcelona in their Champions League semi-final first leg against Barcelona, with their opponents fresh from their Copa del Rey success on Saturday.

"We are not used to three defeats, talking about corners, throw-ins, penalties, that's useless," Inzaghi said.

"We have to recover energy. In three days we leave for Barcelona. We don't need to look at their game last night to understand what kind of team it is.

"We go there with respect but not fear. We have to react to this week at a busy time. A positive result can give you a turning point, but we have to find it within ourselves."
